Harpies:
Option 1:
Winged mutant monstrosities that
serve as secret police for Aeetes. Mix of feathered organic mutant and
dieselpunk cybernetics. Would appear in the story guarding Medea and Phineus in
a high-security space prison.
Option 2:
Integrated half mech, half
fighter jets that act as the strike wing of the Colchian navy; can fly around
in dogfights and then board enemy spaceships to fight like in the Pirates of
the Caribbean. Would appear in a space battle before the Argonauts can reach
the space prison and then in the final battle against Aeetes.
Talos:
An emergency response avatar of
the Observers built to directly interfere in mortal affairs, buried away on an
abandoned planet along with a cache of Observer technologies and documents.
Jason and the Argonauts accidentally awaken it by repeatedly smacking it to see
if it’s a statue.
Option 2:
Curator
robots maintaining and protecting the physical records and legacy left by an
alien race which has ascended to a post-material state. The whole planet has giant
valleys carved into it spelling out a history of their civilization visible
from space. The interiors of the valleys are lined with circuit boards and
shit, with the Curator bots going around dusting stuff off and repelling
meteors. As Jason and his crew explore the planet they stumble upon and alarm one
of these constructs.
In both cases I want the talos bots to look alien and
abstract, reflecting their connection to the Observers, and slow. They should
also be part of a network of talos bots that could come online.
