Creative design brief for a video game IP - Example 1

Not Flash Gordon RTS

The game will take place in the solar system, but far into the future, inspired by the factions of the Flash Gordon movie. The visual development will focus on the contrast and balance between the
different factions.
3 factions are struggling for control over Earth and various colonized planetoids (in this far future, the
solar system has been terraformed beyond recognition, i.e Venus is a tropical world).
After millennia of struggles and rebirths of civilization, each faction sees itself as a “keeper of the flame” of humanity, although each is corrupted by different means. Each faction sees the other as an affront and a threat to humanity. 

Theme - What is human? How will technology change us, and will we stay the same species or perhaps become the aliens we afraid of? And a focus on military vehicle & prop design.

The empire of ? (ming)  are the dominant force. They are the most direct remnant of our present
culture. They see the way forward in looking back to the ancient cultures of the dawn of civilization
and practice a heavily ritualistic amalgamation of religions. They worship the history of humanity.
Pretty much the imperium of man but on a smaller scale, more oriental than gothic and even heavier
on ornamentalism and aesthetics.

The “hawkmen”: Descendants of orbital colonies and space based military personnel. They branched off thousands of years ago and live in space installations and are adapted to space through high tech.
They are cyborgish, rely heavily on technology, barely human. They are practically fused with their
exoskeletons, and use lots of drones.

The “Arborians” - keen on biotech, this faction of humans live in swampy, tropical regions and
command bioweapons and creatures of their design. They see genetic modification as the ultimate
way forward.

FTL travel and communication isn’t possible after all, so human expansion is limited.
“Flash” (the main character / player of the campaign)  is a commander of a space exploration vessel
from the golden age of unified Sol. The vessel returns from a millenia - long exploration and
colonization mission that was aborted due to a technical problem. As the ship approaches the system, the cryo sleep is interrupted and the player must choose a faction to join (or maybe he is another faction in itself)
The campaign goal is unification, but there are no good or bad guys. Every faction is pretty grim and has it’s own advantages, disadvantages and peculiarities.
