Story summary: The protagonist, Chakam, is the son of the Halach Uinik (leader) of his tribe, a legend and a hero that helped the Mayan gods to defeat the evil God Ah Puch, the King of the Underworld Xibalba, after he tried to overthrow his fellow gods and claim control of the entire Mayan world. Several years after this battle, Chakam’s father dies of natural causes before he’s able to pass his knowledge and abilities to his son, leaving the young man unprepared to fill the role of leader and protector of his tribe. Using this opportunity, Ah Puch rises again and without the warrior that had defeated him, he is able to easily defeat Chakam, vanquish the other gods and absorb their power. With this new strength, Ah Puch realizes that he no longer has to limit himself to the Mayan world, and so decides to travel both in time and place to other cultures to destroy their gods and finally becoming the One True God.
Chakam is left badly wounded and with no idea about where or when Ah Puch has left, but with the aid of the only surviving chaman, he gets nursed back to health and with a powerful spell he’s able to jump back in time following the trail of Ah Puch.
The story continues with Chakam arriving at each time period to find that Ah Puch has already been there, and their gods have been imprisoned so his mission becomes helping each culture recover and free their gods, acquiring skills, magic and abilities in each place, before confronting finally confronting Ah Puch in the dystopian future he has created where he is the only god.
