Game name: Overgrown
Genre: 3rd person action rpg aiming for a 13+ rating, the target
audience are fans of rpg and action games.
When: Before world: Celtic fantasy
inspired time period which would be around 300BC in our real time. After world: The main character: Alys is
sent 2000 years in the future by the nature spirit: Varun in a chaotic
post-apocalyptic world where nature has taken over (1700).
Where: The events happen in another world then our own, the human equivalent
have long ears, rougher skin and comes in a much more contrasted variety of
shapes and skin color, probably due to the strong influence of magic in their
world. The setting is Celtic/ fantasy druid inspired. The world itself is
similar to our own though the plants come in more varied shapes and color and
most of the inhabitants have the power to bend nature to their will, using
their power for shelter, has a technological replacement and for art.
Story: The before world is ruled by the circle of the sun, the player
character Alys (an androgynous
character whose sex isn’t mentioned so that the player can think whatever they
wish is true) is the most powerful magic user and the head of the circle and
isn’t afraid to bend nature and the world to almost grotesque form to exert their dominion. Most inhabited regions are ruled by different magic users’ circle; all serve under the circle of the sun.
Varun is the will of the natural world. A spirit birthed by the cry for help
of the twisted flora and the distressed fauna who cannot keep up by the changes
and mutations caused by the circles.
The after world is taken over by Varun, who managed to trap
Alys in a magical pod incapacitating them but failing to kill them, Alys manage
to break free of this magical prison after 2000 year have passed. Varun used
his power to give sentience and power to plants and animals so that they can
fight back against the circles, despite what might seem like a righteous cause
at first, their thirst for vengeance knows no end.
Alys manage to join
the circle of the moon, one of the last circle remaining. While helping the
resistance, Alys has to learn from their mistakes and eventually find and confront
Varun in hopes that they can return to the past and stop this future from
happening.
Magic: The magic users cannot create or summon anything from thin air but they
can bend their surroundings to their will though none have powers has
devastating has Alys. The creatures touched by Varun are immune to the powers
of the magic users but the player can use its surrounding offensively against
them. It is possible to temporarily remove Varun influence on a creature so
that the magic user can bend and twist the creature body directly, creature
that manage to survive such an assault cannot heal the changes and live on in
their new twisted monstrous form, even Varun cannot hope to undue those changes
only cover them (the same is true for the world itself, the change made to it
by the magic users cannot be rectified with more magic, only time).
Technology: The technology is mostly organic and plant based in look, it is
equivalent to the middle ages in the before world and the enlightenment in the
after world in term of usage.
