Biography:
‘Aku’ was once a minor river deity who was the guardian
of a small offshoot of the vast river system where the story takes place. He
became power-hungry and developed a voracious appetite for flesh; the more
lives he consumed, the more his strength grew. This caused him to flood larger
and larger swathes of river to expand his hunting grounds.
Eventually, Aku encroached on an area under the
guardianship of a higher-ranking god. When confronted, he killed and ate him.
This finally prompted the other gods to take action against him, and as
punishment for his crime he was imprisoned indefinitely.
In the future, Aku has achieved world domination. He keeps
the world in a perpetually flooded state, hunts wherever/whomever he pleases and
commands a slew of dangerous aquatic monsters. His powers and appetite have
grown to such an extent that he is now quite keen on devouring his fellow gods,
most of whom have been forced into hiding.
